Guwahati: The state government of Assam has announced the arrest of 15 individuals across the state for allegedly making social media posts that supported the recent blast at the Red Fort in Delhi. According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, action is being taken proactively against those who attempt to glorify terror or spread hatred online.
The arrests were made after police registered suo motu cases in multiple districts. Among those detained are: Mattiur Rahman of Darrang; Hassan Ali Mondal of Goalpara; Abdul Latif of Chirang; Wajhul Kamal of Kamrup and Nur Amin Ahmed of Bongaigaon.
In one particular instance, a retired school principal in Cachar district was detained for allegedly posting a politically-motivated remark about the blast; he was later released after being served a notice.
In connection with the offensive social-media posts following the Delhi blasts, 15 persons have been arrested across Assam so far.
In addition to the 6 arrests made yesterday, overnight we have arrested the following persons also:
1.Rafijul Ali (Bongaigaon)
2.Forid Uddin Laskar…— Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) November 13, 2025
The Chief Minister stated that beyond the 15 arrests, at least 24 more “terror sympathisers” have been identified across districts including Kamrup, Barpeta, Golaghat, Darrang and Cachar. Some of them deleted their posts once the arrests began, but screenshots of their comments have been preserved as evidence.
Sarma criticised those who instead of condemning the Delhi blast reacted with supportive emojis, thumbs-up signs and sympathetic comments, claiming that such behaviour amounts to an attempt to disrupt the social order. He also noted that terrorism “is no longer confined to the uneducated” and warned that community harmony remains under threat from individuals seeking to stir division.
