7 Wanted Persons Arrested In Odisha’s Puri; Unidentified Girl’s Body Found Near River
Puri: Police have arrested 7 wanted criminals and seized several weapons from them from different places in Odisha’s Puri district.
Speaking at a presser here on Thursday, Rabi Narayan Bhanja, SDPO, Puri Sadar, said the seven criminals were arrested during the “Feel Puri Safe, Feel Puri Clean” drive under SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.
While 4 criminal were arrested from the places under Puri Sadar police station, three others were arrested from the area under Chandanpur police limits. All of them have been forwarded to court.
The police teams also seized a gun, knife, iron rod and other weapons from the possession of the arrested persons. Several cases are pending against them in the two police stations, Rao said.
These miscreants were involved in looting the people going in vehicles on Puri-Brahmagiri and Jagannath road in the town. Two other persons involved in the crime are absconding and a search has been launched to nab them the SDPO said.
Unidentified girl’s body found
The body of an unidentified young girl was found lying on the embankment of Daya river at Nuagaon under Gadisagada police limits of Kanas block in the district on Wednesday night.
The locals, who had gone to the river to take bath at around 8.30 pm, found foul smell coming out of a plastic sack. On opening it, they found the body of the girl and informed the police. A police team led by SP and SDPO along with a scientific team reached the spot and brought the body out of the sack. Her hands were tied with a plastic rope.
The SP told the media persons that the girl was estimated to be of 30 years but her identity has not been ascertained. She was wearing a half pant and a shirt and was wrapped in a bedsheet. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
He said the cause of her death will be known after getting the post-mortem report and efforts are on to ascertain the identity.
