Chennai: Ever since the trailer of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ was released, social media users have been on overdrive.
The excitement was understandable as the veteran actor was reuniting with director Mani Ratnam after almost four decades. The trailer, which has been viewed by lakhs of people, has triggered a controversy as well.
Kamal, who turned 70 last November, is being criticised for romancing heroines who are nearly 30 years younger to him.

Some viewers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with some intimate scenes involving Kamal, and female artistes Trisha Krishna and Abhirami.
A Reddit user posted a screenshot of a romantic scene featuring Kamal and Trisha from the trailer, alongside an older image of Kamal kissing Abhirami.
“Noo god please no,” read the caption.
It sparked a debate about the big age difference between Kamal (70), and Trisha (42) & Abhirami (41).
“Trisha is just 3 years older than shruthi hassan btw,” wrote another user wrote, referring to Kamal’s daughter.
Another commented, “Only 30 years apart. Practically soulmates!”
“Abhirami and Kamal sharing a lip lock with a 30 year old difference seems odd. However, I suppose the movie portrays their age gap to be small rather than their actual age,” expressed one user.
There were some who defended Kamal.
One user wrote, “There is nothing wrong in the pairing since the plot demands it clearly shows the aged gangster having an affair with a younger woman.”
Another slammed the troller, saying, “It’s just acting, if the story demands then it’s not wrong, don’t act like children.”
The Mani Ratnam film, headlined by Kamal and Silambarasan, will be released in theatres on June 5.
