Bhubaneswar: At least eight vehicles were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at a garage in Anand Vihar near Nakagate in Bhubaneswar early on Monday.
According to sources, the fire reportedly started while an electric vehicle (EV) was being charged in the garage.
No one was reported to have been injured in the fire, which caused extensive damage to the vehicles.
While an electric short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, the exact reason would be ascertained after a thorough probe.
The vehicles inside the garage included one CNG car, five EVs and two petrol-powered vehicles. The flames quickly spread to the other vehicles, leaving them completely damaged.
After getting information about the incident, a team from Tamando Fire Service station rushed to the spot and launched a firefighting operations. The personnel focused on containing the flames and preventing them from spreading to nearby areas.
The firefighters used foam compound while battling the blaze in view of its intensity. After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control.
