Odisha CM Extends Support To Bengal In Tackling Post-Cyclone Crisis

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had a telephonic conversation with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on Friday morning and enquired about the intensity of damage caused due to Cyclone Amphan.

Naveen conveyed Odisha’s absolute solidarity with the people of Bengal in this hour of crisis. He also assured all possible support to West Bengal in terms of men and materials to overcome this critical situation, a CMO release said.

Seventy-eight people died and thousands were injured in the fury unleashed by cyclone Amphan for over six hours in several parts of West Bengal and Odisha on Wednesday,

North and South 24 Pargana in West Bengal were the worst hit with thousands of people being rendered homeless, bridges washed away and low-lying areas in waist-deep water. Several roads in Kolkata were flooded and its 1.4 crore people were without power as torrential rain and high-speed winds lashed the state capital on the fateful evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to these two states for an aerial survey of the affected areas on Friday.
