Annual Monitoring Of Chilika Lake Concludes
Bhubaneswar: The first annual monitoring of the Chilika lake by Chilika Development Authority (CDA) concluded on Saturday.
A total of 28 teams were engaged in the one-day survey work to find out the number, range and distribution of birds, dolphin, sponge, reconstruction of evicted gherries in the lake.
The survey work which began at 6 AM concluded at 12 PM.
The CDA authorities had asked all the fishing and tourist boats not to ply during the survey period. Besides, the tourists were advised not to visit the lake in the morning hours due to the annual monitoring.
The survey teams were comprised of the officials of the CDA, Chilika Wildlife Division, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Odisha, members of different NGOs, members from Boat Owners Association, Wildlife Warden of Khurda and wildlife lovers of adjoining lake area to know the exact status.
The results of the survey are expected to help Chilika lake in better management of is biodiversity.
The findings of the survey are likely to be made public on February 25, said Susanta Nanda, Chief Executive, CDA.
