Govt Plans To Install Electric Vehicle Charging Points At 69K Petrol Pumps

New Delhi: In a bid to encourage people to adopt electric vehicles (EV), the Centre is planning to install charging points at 69,000 fuel stations across the country.

Apart from higher costs, the lack of charging infrastructure is one of the major concerns preventing people from switching to EVs.

The government is reportedly planning to make it mandatory for company-owned company-operated (COCO) petrol pumps of state refineries to install EV charging points. Franchisee-owned pumps might be advised to install one charging point at least.

The power ministry is also planning to set up EV charging infrastructure on highways around the National Capital Region, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Vadodara and Bhopal.

There are also plans of converting public transport completely to electric in Delhi, followed by other cities.
