Now, Farmers Threaten To Block Railway Tracks; Govt Ready For Further Talks

New Delhi: Agitating farmers at various border points of Delhi said on Thursday threatened to intensify their protest by blocking railway tracks.

“We will block railway tracks if our demands are not met… will announce a date soon,” farmer leader Boota Singh was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

“We had given an ultimatum till December 10 that if PM (Narendra Modi) doesn’t listen to us and repeal the laws, we’ll block railway tracks. It was decided today that all the people of India will take to the tracks,” ANI quoted another leader of Sanyukt Kisan Manch as saying.

The farmers also plan to block Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Agra highways by December 12, as well as gherao residences of BJP leaders, ministers and offices on December 14 if their demands are not met by then.

Earlier on Thursday, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told farmers’ union leaders that the government is ready for further discussions with them. “The government is ready to consider with an open mind any provision in the new laws where farmers have any issues and we want to clarify all their apprehensions,” Tomar reiterated.
