Bhubaneswar: Alleging a tardy investigation by the Crime Branch into the death of motivational speaker and social activist Aditya Dash, his family has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to demand a CBI probe.

Aditya’s parents informed the media on Saturday that the petition was filled in the top court on March 4.

“We moved the Orissa High Court as we did not have faith in the Crime Branch investigation. This apart, it seemed that the HC was also buying time by scheduling one date after another for hearing. Therefore we filed the petition in Supreme Court to demand a CBI probe,” said the parents.

They also accused the Government Railway Police as well the Crime Branch of shoddiness. “On this day, eight months ago, my son had died. The GRP messed up with the probe. We were happy when Crime Branch took over the probe hoping that they would bring out the truth. But their shoddy approach had forced us to move the HC,” they added.

But they were disappointed with the court proceedings as well. “Eight months have passed since the death of our son, but we have got nothing but date after date by the High Court. We do not have more patience,” the aggrieved parents added.

Case History

Aditya’s body was found along the railway tracks near Lingaraj Railway Station in Bhubaneswar on July 7.

The GRP initially investigated the case. Then on July 30 last year, the Odisha DGP transferred the case to the Crime Branch.

On August 28, 2020, Aditya’s widow, Bidyashree had moved the Orissa High Court seeking a CBI investigation into the case.

A little less than four months after filing the petition, Bidyashree had tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills while being live on Facebook. She alleged that she was depressed after being branded as the murderer of her husband.
