NEET Against Equality, Creating Disparity, Says Kamal Haasan
Bhubaneswar: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday created a flutter stating that NEET (medical entrance test) has been deprieving medical aspirants from Tamil Nadu and hence it a sad commentary on social justice and equality as it has been creating regional disparity on the basis of language.
Releasing a statement supporting retired Justice AK Ranjan’s report on adverse impact of NEET on the students from Tamil Nadu, Haasasn said, “NEET has shattered the dreams of many medical aspirants coming from poor and rural backgrounds in Tamil Nadu. Despite NEET scores, the percentage of students joining Medical courses has fallen from 14.44 per cent to 1.7 per cent and this showed that NEET has affected social justice.”
Backing Rajan’s findings the veteran actor said only the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) passouts fared well in NEET and that 90 per cent of them had attended coaching classes.
“Tamil Nadu has the greatest medical infrastructure in the country and if NEET continues it will deprieve students from southern states, and all such facilitiesis will be lost,” Kamal apprehended and added that “NEET has been creating a bais against one’s mother tongue and it should be removed not only from Tamil Nadu but across the country to eliminate language disparity.”
