Bhubaneswar: June did not augur well for Odisha with monsoon rain eluding most districts and the state recording 25.6% deficit rainfall.
According to a Facebook post of Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha, the state received an average rainfall of 161.1 mm against the Long Term Average (LTA) of 216.5 mm.
The highest rainfall of 268.9 mm was recorded in Balasore district and the lowest of 97.3 mm in Balangir.
Only two districts, Balasore and Kendrapara, received 19% surplus rainfall, while it was normal for Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Cuttack, Khordha and Puri.
Rainfall in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Bargarh, Kandhamal. Rayagada, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Koraput remained deficit between 19% and 39% during the month.
Severe deficit of 39% to 59% was recorded in Nuapada, Ganjam, Subarnapur, Angul, Nayagarh, Balangir, Nawarangpur and Kalahandi.
As against the average of 9.9 rainy days, the state had only 8.1 in June this year, the post added.
In June 2017, Odisha had received an average rainfall of 207.9 mm, a deficit of 4%.
