New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday lambasted Pakistan for its “ludicrous” claims about India firing missiles towards Shri Harmandir Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple.
“These lame attempts to divide India are doomed to failure,” he told a presser.
Misri also rubbished another claim that India is firing missiles at Afghanistan. “Totally frivolous allegation. I want to point out that Afghan people don’t need to be reminded about which country it is that has on multiple occasions in just the last one and a half years targeted civilian populations and civilian infrastructure in Afghanistan,” he said.
He was referring to Pakistan Army’s DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry’s late night press briefing in which he made these claims while confirming that three of its air bases, including one on the outskirts of Islamabad near the army headquarters, had been attacked by Indian missiles.
“I would like to share shocking information, India has fired six ballistic missiles from Adampur. One among them fell in Adampur and the remaining five hit Amritsar. India is targeting places with a large Sikh population. Our sympathy is with the Sikhs, who are suffering at the hands of India,” Chaudhry had alleged.
Taking a dig at the military spokesperson, Misri further said that he appears to take great joy in the Indian public criticising the Indian government. “It may be a surprise to Pakistan to see citizens criticising their own government, that is the hallmark of an open and functioning democracy. Pakistan’s unfamiliarity with that again shouldn’t be surprising,” he added.
