Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday apprehended a junior clerk of Sub-Registrar office at Balipatna in Khurda district and his associate while allegedly accepting Rs 2,500 as bribe.
The junior clerk, identified as Sukanta Kumar Singh, had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from a functionary of a trust board to hand over a registered trust deed. The complainant gave him Rs 1,500 on July 7 to facilitate the process. However, Singh demanded another Rs 2,500 to hand over the deed.
Following a complaint, the Vigilance authorities laid a trap and Singh and his associate, Mahendra Sahu, were caught red-handed while accepting the amount. The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from them.
A case has been registered and searches are currently underway at two locations linked to Singh to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
