Mumbai: At the trailer launch of ‘Kartavya’ earlier this month, Saif Ali Khan sparked a wave of memes after he was seen bowing before his own film poster as if seeking blessings.
The unusual gesture quickly went viral, leaving netizens puzzled and amused.
While promoting his Netflix project on Just Too Filmy, Saif was asked if he had planned it.
His reply — “No, of course not. I don’t know. Yeah, this is what, they asked me to explain it later.”
Explaining the reason behind it, Saif added: “I said good luck to the movie. And I saw this big poster and I was like, good luck to us all. I didn’t see it as me. I saw it as a kind of team effort and a representation of the whole idea. It’s like (imitates touching the poster) and this is the main gesture (pumps fist). And there’s a little skip also, it’s absolutely mad.”
Asked whether he had come across the memes that started doing the rounds after the incident, Saif admitted he had seen a few. “Fab, I think that’s the right spirit to take it in. People have been very supportive.”
Saif also opened up about online trolling and the negativity that often surrounds social media.
During the conversation, he was asked if he had gone through the comments section after the trailer of ‘Kartavya’ was released.
“Yes, of course. And I am always relieved, and I stop after a while so as not to get greedy. If there are a few good ones, that’s enough. We keep looking for a bad comment like a sucker for punishment,” he said.
Saif further said that people on social media seem to have become more positive and kinder than before, compared to the earlier wave of negativity.
However, he added that the change in response could also be linked to the kind of work he is currently doing.
