Rourkela: The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) has selected National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela’s Prof. Bhaskar Kundu as an INSA Associate Fellow (IAF) for the year 2026.
Prof. Kundu is the Associate Professor in Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at NIT Rourkela.
He is the only scientist selected in the field of Earth & Environmental Sciences by the INSA Sectional Committee for the prestigious recognition this year.
Prof. Kundu has been recognised for his outstanding contributions in solid earth geophysics, particularly in the areas of kinematic and dynamic modelling. His research has helped in advancing the understanding of various geodynamic and geological processes in central India.
Prof. Kundu, who is also a ‘Humboldt Research Fellow’, has contributed significantly to strengthening knowledge in earth system sciences and geophysical studies relevant to the Indian subcontinent through his scientific investigations.
Prof. Kundu earned his PhD in Geophysics and has established himself as a leading researcher in his field.
INSA, established in 1935 under the India government’s Department of Science and Technology (DST), is the country’s apex scientific body, representing all branches of science and technology.
The INSA Associate Fellows programme, initiated in 2024, recognises outstanding mid-career scientists for their notable contributions to science, engineering, medicine, and technology.
NIT Rourkela Director Prof. K Umamaheshwar Rao congratulated Prof. Kundu on on this remarkable achievement.
