New Delhi: Speculation over the political future of former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai intensified on Tuesday after he met senior BJP leaders in New Delhi, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and organisation secretary BL Santhosh.
The meetings come amid growing buzz that Annamalai is unhappy with the party’s direction in Tamil Nadu and may be considering a political course independent of the BJP. However, sources, as cited in a NDTV report, said that Annamalai has not yet resigned from the party.
According to sources, Annamalai used the meetings to convey his concerns about the functioning of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit. He reportedly raised questions about the party’s performance in the recent Tamil Nadu elections and discussed the impact of the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK on its electoral prospects.
Annamalai had previously opposed the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK, arguing that the party should focus on building its own organisational strength in the state. His position reportedly put him at odds with AIADMK leaders, with reports suggesting that his removal as state BJP chief was a condition for the alliance.
Sources also said Annamalai expressed displeasure over the attitude of some BJP and AIADMK leaders during discussions with the party’s top leadership. While reports of a possible exit continue to circulate, BJP leaders are understood to be engaging with him to address his concerns.
The meetings have fueled further speculation about Annamalai’s next political move, particularly amid reports that he has been exploring options beyond the BJP. Accordinh to reports, Annamalai has indicated to the party leadership that he wishes to chart his own course and, if he decides to leave, would prefer a cordial separation from the BJP.
For now, however, no official announcement has been made regarding his future, leaving political observers closely watching developments in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi.
