Mumbai: After the controversy over a comment made during Pranit More’s show, another stand-up comedian Madhur Virli has sparked outrage after a clip from one of his performances went viral on social media.
A distasteful joke on rape cases was was widely criticised by netizens.
It was deemed insensitive and offensive, with social media users calling for accountability and strict action against the comedian.
The backlash comes close on the heels of the row involving comedian Pranit, reigniting debates around the limits of humour and the responsibility of performers when addressing sensitive subjects.
A user uploaded a clip from Virli’s 2024 show ‘Love & Latex’ and wrote, “Please stop this nonsense, disgusting things in the name of comedy.”
In the viral clip, Virli was seen making remarks about rape cases while presenting a hypothetical scenario in which one out of ten such incidents also involves murder.
During the segment, he speculated about the mindset of an alleged offender and what they might be thinking before deciding to kill the victim, a comment that has drawn sharp criticism from many social media users.
“After Pranit, now MADHUR VIRLI, such an insensitive comment against rape victims. People are speaking anything BS in the name of dank comedy. Strict action needed,” expressed one user.
Tagging the National Commission for Women, an X user urged authorities to take action.
“Where are people heading these days? How can someone be so insensitive and pathetic? Maybe a man may not fully understand the fear pain and trauma of being r*p*d or molested but not to this extent I just can’t understand how any HUMAN say such things,” commented one person.
“These folks are spewing just about anything in the name of comedy,” said another.
“Most disgusting thoughts….. It’s not even comedy,” wrote one netizen.
Following the fierce backlash, Madhur deactivated his Instagram account.

Pranit, on the other hand, landed in controversy after a 23-year-old audience member, Himanshu Jangra, shared on his show that he had gone on a date with a woman and spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani.
He then remarked that he expected some form of “return” on his spending, a comment that quickly drew attention online.
