Berhampur: Two youths were killed and another sustained critical injuries in a head-on collision between a scooty and a motorcycle near Ankorda Chhak on NH-326 under Digapahandi police station limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Kalia Swain (22) of Patpur and Bhola Sethi (23) of Laxmipur. Sagar Sethi (18) of Kaithabeda, who suffered serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the motorcycle, while overtaking a pickup van, collided head-on with the scooty. All three riders were thrown onto the road and sustained grievous injuries.
Fire service personnel and police rushed the victims to Digapahandi Community Health Centre, where Kalia and Bhola succumbed during treatment. Sethi was later shifted to Berhampur.
Police have seized the vehicles and launched an investigation.
Locals have blamed the recurring accidents on the incomplete road work and lack of speed-calming measures on the highway stretch.
