Mumbai: Singer-composer Palaash Muchhal has suffered a legal setback after a sessions court in Sangli rejected his anticipatory bail plea in a case registered under the SC/ST Act.
His lawyer has confirmed that the order will be challenged.
“Yes the news is true and we plan to challenge the order,” Muchhal’s lawyer, advocate Abhijit Desai was quoted as saying by HT City.
Vidnyan Mane, a resident of Sangli and Smriti Mandhana’s childhood friend, alleged that the incident occurred on November 22 at a toll plaza on the Sangli-Ashta road.
He claimed that during an argument, Muchhal made caste-based derogatory remarks, following which the police registered a case under Section 3(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Earlier this year, Mane claimed that Palaash had allegedly cheated him of over Rs 40 lakh in connection with an investment in an unreleased film.
He also accused Muchhal of being unfaithful to his former fiancée, Indian cricketer Mandhana.
Responding to the allegations, Muchhal said on social media that he had taken legal action against Mane.
“A legal notice of defamation of ₹10 crore has been sent by my lawyer Shreyansh Mithare to Sangli based Vidnyan Mane for his false, outrageous and highly defamatory accusations made with the deliberate intent to malign my reputation and character,” Muchhal wrote.
