Mumbai: Kanikka Kapur is making her big-screen debut with Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Batwara 1947’, but ahead of the film’s release, the actress has found herself at the centre of comparisons with Kiara Advani.
Reacting to the constant lookalike comments, Kanikka admitted that she is now “tired” of answering the same question and jokingly suggested that people should ask Kiara if she thinks they look alike.
“I don’t know if I look like her or not. So many people have different opinions. My family doesn’t think I do, of course,” she was quoted as saying by NDTV.
After being asked the same question several times, Kanikka now has a simple suggestion: why not ask Kiara herself?
“I’m honestly tired of answering this question. I think people should ask Kiara Advani whether she thinks I look like her or not,” she joked.
Asked how she might greet Kiara if they met, Kanikka playfully replied, “I’d probably start with, ‘Hey, sister! Nice to meet you.’”
She added, “They say there are seven people in the world who resemble each other, so maybe we’re two of them.”
Kanikka said she has no issue with the comparisons, as she believes they have been positive rather than malicious.
“The comparisons are healthy, so I’m okay with them,” she said.
The actress also recalled her excitement when her first ‘Batwara 1947’ poster was released. She said she was so thrilled to see herself on the poster that she didn’t pay much attention to the comparisons.
“I was just like, ‘Oh, there’s a poster! Share it everywhere!’ Being on the poster itself was such a huge deal for me,” she recalled.
Kanikka portrays Nishat, a woman who stands firmly by her beliefs and refuses to compromise on what she feels is right.
“Even if someone she loves dearly is doing something wrong, she will raise her voice. Even if speaking up puts her own safety at risk, she will still do it,” she said.
‘Batwara 1947’ is also a deeply personal project for Kanikka, whose grandparents witnessed the Partition and migrated to India from the Punjab region that is now part of Pakistan.
“My grandparents witnessed Partition first-hand. They came to India from the part of Punjab that is now in Pakistan,” she revealed.
