Bhubaneswar: A patient died after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of a private hospital in Odisha’s Raurkela (formerly spelled Rourkela) on Thursday night.
The deceased, identified as David Jojo from the Nuagaon block in Sundaragada district, had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday for treatment of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
According to hospital authorities, Jojo reportedly pushed past attending nurses on duty before leaping off the fourth-floor building in an apparent act of suicide. Hospital staff immediately notified the victim’s family, and local police arrived shortly after to launch an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and reason behind the extreme step.
The tragic death on the hospital premises has triggered serious concerns over patient safety and security arrangements. A patient’s attendant at the hospital voiced the anger, saying, “There are so many hospital staff and security people here. How can a person jump from the fourth floor and none noticed. Action must be taken against the hospital authorities.”
