Angul: Amid heatwave warning for Odisha, the Angul district administration on Wednesday announced an extension of summer vacation for all government and private schools in the district till June 20, with classes now set to resume on June 22.
The move comes as a precautionary measure despite the state government’s earlier plan for schools across Odisha to reopen on June 18 following the extended summer break that began in late April due to soaring temperatures.
The District Education Officer issued the order to safeguard students from the extreme weather, with temperatures in the region remaining significantly high even as monsoon conditions have brought some relief elsewhere in the state. The district administration, in coordination with the education department, has urged parents and guardians to take extra precautions, emphasising the need for proper hydration and limiting children’s exposure to direct sunlight during the intense heat.
Similar steps have been taken in other districts facing ongoing challenges from the heatwave.
In Sonepur, the administration has directed the closure of Anganwadi centres, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions until June 20. Examinations scheduled during this period will proceed as planned, preferably in the morning hours to reduce students’ exposure to peak afternoon heat.
