After Taking First Vaccine Shot, Mumbai Doctor Tests COVID-19 Positive, Recovers

Mumbai: A doctor of a civic-run hospital, who took the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, got infected by the deadly virus a few days ago, but has now recovered, according to a Mumbai civic official.

Maharashtra government’s task force expert, however, said that it wasn’t unusual as a recipient of the vaccine does not develop immediate immunity.

According to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official, the 46-year-old doctor of BYL Nair hospital tested COVID-19 positive nine days after he took the first dose of Covishield vaccine.

“Whenever you get a booster dose, that is the time when the immunity is going to be at its peak. Whether it will be 100 per cent or not it is difficult to say. It’s too early. But you will get the best immunity after the second dose,” Dr Om Shrivastav, an infectious diseases expert and also a member of the state government’s task force on coronavirus, was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
