Bhubaneswar: A day after Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted operational licence to Jharsuguda airport, Air Odisha on Saturday announced that it would launch its maiden flight service from the airport on June 14.
In a statement, the Air Odisha authorities said the flight service would be launched under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme of the Centre.
Talking about the flight schedule, the authorities said the flight would leave Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar at 5.50 am and reach Jharsuguda at 6.40 am. Apart from this, it would be further extended to Raipur and Ranchi from Jharsuguda airport, they added.
The fare for each passenger travelling from Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda is Rs 1,750 while that from Jharsuguda to Raipur and Ranchi is Rs 1,670.
Jharsuguda is the second operational airport in the state after Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, and one of the five airports in Odisha to provide regional flight connectivity under the UDAN scheme.
Developed with an investment of over Rs 200 crore, the Jharsuguda airport has the facility to handle at least 300 passengers per day. In the first phase, the airport has been developed over 909 acres while over 200 acres will be added to it in the next phase, official sources said.
