Amazon, Tata Raise Concerns With Centre About E-Commerce Rules
New Delhi: Online traders like Amazon and Tata called on government officials about the new e-commerce rules announced by the Centre last month that were seen as a major hurdle for their models of business.
According to NDTV’s sources, executives from both the companies told the department of consumer affairs at a meeting earlier in the day that they were worried about the new rules and asked that the deadline for submitting comments be extended from July 6.
The key issues that were raised are the restrictions on flash sales, definition of related parties and compliance of norms for e-commerce majors, the sources said. They also said that the government officials asked for written feedback on the rules.
The Centre’s tough new e-commerce rules declared on June 21 are aimed to strengthen protection for consumers and small retailers. The rules were met with concern among the country’s online sellers, particularly Amazon and Flipkart.
