Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Cocktail 2’ reportedly revolves around a complicated modern-day love triangle.
While the makers have kept plot details under wraps, speculation around the storyline continues to grow, including rumours suggesting that Kriti and Rashmika may be playing a lesbian couple, with Shahid’s character entering the equation.
At the trailer launch of the film on Tuesday, Kriti was asked about the nature of relationship between her and Rashmika’s characters.
“I think the rumours are coming from one place only,” replied Kriti, playfully glancing at Shahid.
A surprised Shahid joined in the conversation and jokingly asked what his character would gain if the storyline unfolded that way.
“I didn’t say anything, guys. Why would I want it that way? I have nothing to do with that? Kaha se aa rahe hain rumours?” Shahid quipped.
Addressing the rumours, director Homi Adajania clarified the origin of the speculation. “Let me clear it up. This is where the rumour came from. We were all sitting on the set. They definitely get a little cuddly with each other because they are friends. And we just hypothetically thought, ‘What if the story was about them and Shahid was the third wheel?’ And I said I wouldn’t mind making a movie like that.”
Producer Dinesh Vijan added, “So guys, we were supposed to clear this up, so in the trailer there are two love stories. Purana love aur naya love and ye Luv (Ranjan). Aur kuchh nahi hai kisi ka love nahi hai is picture mein.”
Kriti and Rashmika spoke warmly about their bond, revealing that their friendship began while working at the same studio and describing their equation as natural, easy and effortless.
Shahid quipped, “Do you think that is the reason people think it’s a lesbian love story, because of your natural chemistry?”
Kriti responded by saying that such assumptions reflected a “sad” mindset in society.
“Jab do ladke hote hain to ‘bromance’ ho jata hai. Ladkiyan hoti hain do toh somehow people don’t want to believe they can be friends. Ya toh in mein rivalry ya phir kuchh aur chal raha hoga,” Kriti remarked.
