Islamabad: Pakistan army chief Asim Munir is likely to travel to Tehran on Thursday, Iranian media outlet ISNA reported. This comes as diplomatic efforts continue between Iran and the United States.

This comes amid continued indirect talks, with Pakistan acting as a mediator for message exchanges. Pakistan’s interior minister Syed Mohsen Naqvi visited Tehran on Wednesday for the second time for discussions with Iranian officials.

President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly discussed recent regional developments along with the status of indirect US-Iran talks and ongoing diplomatic consultations.

Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the negotiations. Meanwhile, reports of a tense phone conversation between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlighted growing differences between Washington and Tel Aviv over the future course of the conflict. According to Axios, Netanyahu favours renewed strikes on Iran to further weaken its military infrastructure, while Trump appears more inclined towards a negotiated settlement.

Global energy markets remain volatile amid uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices fluctuated sharply this week, with investors reacting to both ceasefire hopes and fears of renewed disruption to Gulf shipping routes.
