Assam Man Kicks Out Girl From Shop For Wearing Jeans Instead Of Burqa

Guwahati: After a young girl was debarred from appearing in an exam for wearing shorts, a shop owner in Assam’s Biswanath district allegedly misbehaved with a girl and kicked her out of his store because she was wearing jeans and not a burqa.

The incident took place at a mobile phone accessories store in Biswanath Chariali, where the girl had gone to buy a pair of earphones. The owner of the shop, Nurul Amin denied her service and allegedly shamed the girl for wearing jeans instead of a burqa. He then pushed her out of the shop.

“When I reached the shop, the owner, who is an elderly person, misbehaved with me and told me not to visit again and asked me to get out. The elderly man runs the shop from his home and none of his family objected to his behaviour. He told me that if I visited his house in jeans, it would impact his family because his daughter-in-law wears a burqa or hijab,” the girl told India Today.

The girl returned home and shared the entire episode with her parents. Her father went to the shop to complain about the owner’s behaviour. But the man and his family members allegedly assaulted the girl’s father. “The elderly man’s two sons also misbehaved with and attacked my father,” the girl claimed.

Following this, the girl’s family members lodged a police complaint. Police have detained the accused. Further investigation is underway.
