Bears’ Night Out In Odisha Towns Turning A Regular Sight

Balasore: After elephants, now the cases of intrusion of bears into human habitation have been on the rise in Odisha with the latest case coming from Nilagiri town where a bear was found roaming in the street.

According to sources, a youth driving his car back home in ward 6 of Nilagiri in Balasore district saw a grown-up bear moving in the streets and clicked its picture on Wednesday night.

Though the wild animal has not harmed anybody, the locals are in a panic apprehending threat to their lives, the sources said. The Forest officials were yet to reach the place to drive the bear away, they added.

In a similar incident a month back, a man travelling in a car spotted a bear on the Digisalapa-Udaypur road in Nabarangpur on February 4.

A few days after the incident, a wild bear was spotted roaming inside Gobindpali High School under Khairapur block in Malkangiri district. CCTV footage showed the bear scaling the school boundary wall.
