Bubaneswar: The Odisha government has chalked out an ambitious plan to construct a mega convention centre in Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar with a seating capacity of 10,000 people.
Similarly, a modern community market complex is all set to come up in Ghatikia area of the capital city. Both the projects will be executed in public-private-partnership (PPP) mode, reports said.
The proposed convention centre project, to be executed by Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) Ltd, was approved recently, and a request for proposal (RFP) was issued to select a transaction advisor, which will help in the execution of this mega project.
The authorities have identified 18 acres near Rail Sadan at Chandrasekharpur for the project. The project seeks to create a world-class venue for conferences, events, and exhibitions that will boost the city’s status as a major hub for business and tourism. The project will be fully funded by a private player.
“We issued the RFP for selecting a transaction advisor for the convention centre. The site was finalised where currently the OMFED Plant exists. The advisor will prepare the project report, following which the final tender will be floated,” managing director of (OBCC) Sameer Hota was quoted by TOI as saying.
The proposed centre is likely to play a key role in the economic and cultural growth of Bhubaneswar, while enhancing its reputation as a major venue for national and international conventions, he said.
The convention centre will have a plenary hall with a seating capacity of 4,000 people, one meeting hall with 1,200 seating capacity, and another meeting hall with a seating capacity of 500 people. The complex will also have around four small conference rooms with a seating capacity of 100 people each, an indoor exhibition hall of 50,000 sq ft, and an outdoor exhibition space that could accommodate 30,000 people. It will have adequate vehicle parking facilities.
Apart from the convention centre, the capital city will also have a mega market complex. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has planned to develop a modern community market in Ghatikia area.
Sources said the swanky market will come up on 2.79 acres of land. The proposed community market will have three floors with proper passage, staircase, storage, toilets and other facilities.
As per reports, the market will be fully air-conditioned with separate sections for non-vegetarian and vegetarian items.
The market complex will be set up in line with the Gajwel market in Telangana. The new facility can accommodate over 220 shops, while there will be dedicated parking space.
