Panaji: A chartered flight from Moscow to Goa, with 244 people on board, had to be diverted to Gujarat after Air Traffic Controller (ATC) received a bomb threat.
The flight landed safely at the Jamnagar Defence airport late on Monday night. The aircraft and baggage were kept in an isolation bay after all passengers and crew were safely evacuated, officials said.
Security agencies cordoned off the Jamnagar airport till Tuesday as they carried out intensive checking and search operation.
No bombs or explosives were detected in the aircraft which was thoroughly checked by police and security personnel, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, reported India Today.
Russian Embassy said in a statement that they were alerted by Indian authorities about a bomb scare on the flight.
“The Embassy was alerted by Indian authorities about an alleged bomb scare on Azur Air flight from Moscow to Goa. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Jamnagar Indian Air Force Base. Everyone on board is safe; authorities conducting an inspection of the aircraft,” stated the Russian Embassy.
The passengers are reportedly tourists, who were escorted to the lounge inside the terminal building of Jamnagar airport.
