New Delhi: The Union education ministry is planning to expand its scrutiny of the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) on-screen marking system (OSM), according to reports.
This is being planned to include a full audit of the platform’s implementation, starting from the tendering process to the implementation. This comes amid concerns over glitches and evaluation-related issues.
Scanned copies of CBSE answer scripts will be made available to students through DigiLocker from next year, officials said, as reported by Hindustan Times. If implemented, the system will enable students to view their assessed answer scripts directly through their DigiLocker accounts. This can be done after the results are announced.
CBSE had picked up Telangana-based Coempt Edu Teck for the OSM work.
Officials quoted in the report defended the selection of Coempt. But allegations have been raised by opposition leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, regarding the company’s previous work in Telangana.
These developments come at a time when CBSE’s evaluation and re-evaluation processes have come under intense scrutiny following the declaration of Class 12 Board Examination results. Concerns have been raised by students regarding answer sheet access, discrepancies in scanned copies, and technical glitches during the re-evaluation process. These have sparked widespread discussions about the transparency of the board’s assessment mechanism.
