Cuttack: Biswanath Pandit Central Library will soon get a new address at Badambadi in Cuttack.
The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has selected land near Angul bus stand in Badambadi for the largest library of Cuttack.
Estimated at Rs 20 crore, construction of the library on 3.75 acres of land will start soon, said sources in CMC.
The central library was demolished at Khan Nagar during the eviction drive for construction of a bus terminal. The library has temporarily been shifted to Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT) near the Judicial Academy.
The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation owns the land selected for the library and CMC has sent a detailed blueprint to the state government for approval.
On receiving the approval, the Corporation aims to complete the library building in six months.
A total of 500 readers can use the library at a time and there will also be e-library service, said the sources. The library will have different rooms for senior citizens and women, said sources.
To facilitate easy search of books for the readers, names of all books will be uploaded in computer, said sources. New books will also be bought for the library besides the 60,000 stock that the Central Library.
The library was started in 1981 at Saheed Bhavan in Cuttack. Then it was shifted to Khan Nagar in 1998.
Meanwhile, construction of the bus terminal is also underway. Both, Badambadi main bus stand and Angul bus stand will be shifted to the new bus terminal.
