Chain Snatching Gang Busted In Odisha’s Cuttack City

Cuttack: Cuttack Sadar police have arrested eight persons of a chain-snatching gang and recovered stolen items from their possession.

The police busted the gang following investigation into a complaint lodged by Satya Ranjan Nayak of Bidanasi in the city on December 5. The complainant stated that while he along with his mother was returning home on a bike from Bhubaneswar, two miscreants came on another bike and intercepted them near Bamphakuda Grand Bazar on NH-16.

The miscreants snatched the gold necklace of Satya’s mother and fled. As Satya tried to chase them, the snatchers fired at them but he escaped with injuries.

Besides arresting the 8 members of the snatching gang, police seized 13 gold chains worth Rs 6 lakh, one country made air gun and three motorcycles from them.

The arrested persons are Manas Lenka (28), Dhaneswar Pradhan (28), Sangram Rout (31), Jagannath Bhoi (26), Pradip Behera (35), Baidyantah Sahoo (37), Kaminikanta Rana (34) and Dilip Kumar Moharana (59).

Police said that the accused were involved in several similar offences in the area of Cuttack Ring Road, Cuttack-Paradeep Road, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Road, Bhubaneswar-Khurda Road, Puri Bypass Road and Jagatpur-Manguli-Choudwar Road.
