Baripada: An incident of brutal ragging has come to light from a school at Basipitha under Khunta area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Sources said the horrific incident took place at Basipitha SSD High School where a class VI student was allegedly tortured by his seniors, causing him with severe injuries.
The father of the victim student lodged a complaint at Khunta police station, based on which police launched an investigation.
As per the complaint, the incident occurred after the victim informed the headmaster about his seniors drinking alcohol in the school hostel.
Angry over this, some class IX students locked the junior student in a room and subjected him to physical torture. They allegedly thrashed him with iron rod, cut his hand with a blade, and poured salt on the wound.
The senior students threatened to kill him if he revealed the matter to anyone about the incident. He was scared and didn’t tell anyone. When he expressed his unwillingness to go to school, his father inquired about the matter. Finally, the victim narrated the ordeal, prompting his father to move police station. The incident took place last February; however, the school authorities had kept the matter secret.
