Cold Wave: Mercury Plummets To 2°C In Odisha; 21 Places Record Temp Below 10°C
Bhubaneswar: With cold wave sweeping Odisha, the mercury plummeted to 2 degree Celsius (°C) at Semiliguda in Koraput district, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
The night temperature dropped below 10°C at 21 places in the state:
Semiliguda – 2°C
Kirei (Sundargarh)- 4.4°C
G Udayagiri (Kandhamal) – 4.6°C
Phulbani (Kandhamal) – 5°C
Rourkela – 6.4°C
Sundargarh – 6.5°C
Koraput – 6.5°C
Jharsuguda – 6.6°C
Daringbadi (Kandhamal) – 6.7°C
Keonjhar – 7.2°C
Bhawanipatna – 7.2°C
Dhenkanal – 8°C
Sonepur – 8.5°C
Angul – 8.6°C
Baripada – 9°C
Nabarangpur – 9°C
Sambalpur – 9.3°C
Ranital (Bhadrak) – 9.4°C
Bhadrak – 9.5°C
Mahisapat (Dhenkanal) – 9.5°C
Hirakud (Sambalpur) – 9.6°C
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 10.5°C and 11.5°C respectively.
Notably, the MeT office had issued yellow warning for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul and Dhenkanal till 8.30 am on Sunday. Cold wave will prevail in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Kandhamal during the subsequent 24 hours.
While there will be no large change in minimum temperature during the next 2 days and the mercury will gradually rise by 2-4°C in the subsequent period. “The minimum temperature is very likely to remain 3-5°C below normal at many places during the next 2 days,” it added.
