Collector Pedals To Create Awareness On Cleanliness In Odisha’s Chhatrapur

Shopkeepers Fined For Using Plastic Bags, Asked To Remove Litter

Berhampur: Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange is leading by example. He pedals around Chhatrapur promoting health lifestyle and creating awareness on maintaining cleanliness.

After a surprise inspection in a market and penalising a garment shop owner for littering, the collector was back in the area with several officials of the Chhatrapur NAC on Tuesday evening.

This impromptu inspection was to deter shopkeepers from using the banned plastic bags. The officials collected a fine of Rs 25,500 for the violation.

Kulange also interacted with shopkeepers on the need to maintain cleanliness in the surrounding and dump waste on dustbins.

On February 7, the Collector had reprimanded the owner of ‘Himalaya Handloom’ for litter outside his shop and imposed Rs 10,000 fine on him. He also asked a woman to take the litter from front of her house to the nearest dustbin.

This surprise inspection was captured in a video, which went viral on social media.

The residents have welcomed the Collector’s initiative, saying that such strict actions will deter people from littering on roads and public spaces.
