Committee Takes Stock Of Possible Reforms In Jagannath Temple

Puri: The three-member committee, appointed by the Odisha government on the directive of the Supreme Court to initiate reforms in the Jagannath temple, on Sunday went round the 12th century shrine.
Accompanied by the Puri Collector Jyoti Prakash Das and SP Sarthak Sarangi, the committee, led by the additional chief secretary, Forest and Environment and former chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, went round the temple periphery with two other members, IG, Soumendra Priyadarshi and member of the Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, Mahimohan Tripathy.
The committee during its preliminary inspection studied the location to set up toilets for the devotees and expansion of the encroached roads on the three sides of the temple.
Apart from this, the members also discussed putting up barricades inside the temple for the smooth darshan of the Lords. It also took stock of the sanitation measures in and outside the temple.
Notably, the committee had recently toured some maths, temples and religious institutions in the neighbouring states for a detailed study of their management. It submit its report to the Supreme Court through an affidavit in the last week of August.
