New Delhi: Congress MP Manish Tewari appeared to signal his disappointment on Thursday after he was omitted from the party’s freshly announced organisational lineup and the election teams for Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
The AICC’s major Punjab reshuffle, unveiled on Wednesday, distributed key election duties among senior leaders but left Tewari out of significant roles. Of Punjab’s seven Congress MPs, six were assigned election-related responsibilities, as reported by The Statesman.
Posting on X, the former Union minister shared a terse message widely interpreted as expressing dissatisfaction.
“Wish I had an antidote for the insecurities of individuals and institutions! Having said that @INCIndia has given me enough over the past 45 years and I have also devoted my entire adult life in the service of the Indian National Congress over the decades,” he wrote.
He closed the post with: “Que sera, sera, Whatever will be, will be…”
The message followed media coverage noting Tewari’s absence from the AICC’s latest Punjab appointments.
Congress Unveils Punjab Poll Panels
A statement from AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had approved the new appointments with immediate effect.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was named Campaign Committee Chairperson, with Sukhpal Singh Khaira as co-chair. Vijay Inder Singla will lead the Election Management and Coordination Committee. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was appointed Chairperson of the Core Committee, and Amar Singh will head the Manifesto Committee. The party retained Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and Pratap Singh Bajwa as Leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
Three Working Presidents Named; Tewari Left Out
Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Raj Kumar Verka and Sangat Singh Gilzian were appointed as Working Presidents of the state unit.
Manish Tewari, the Lok Sabha MP from Chandigarh who has earlier represented Anandpur Sahib and Ludhiana, did not receive any organisational or election-related assignment in the reshuffle.
