New Delhi: The last 24 hours have seen 773 new coronavirus positive cases and 32 deaths in India, the Union Health Ministry informed on Wednesday evening.

As for the number of tests carried out thus far, the number stands at 1.21 lakh, informed a Health Ministry official, adding that the country has sufficient stock of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria tablet which some experts feel can be effective in treating coronavirus.

Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of Health Ministry, informed that the government is intensifying steps and measures in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

The Ministry of Human Resources has launched a field-level orientation programme to develop frontline workers involved in the fight against the deadly coronavirus. This includes doctors, paramedics, nurses, ANMs, volunteers and Red Cross.

The Health Ministry is mulling converting stadiums into facilities for treatment of COVID-19 patients, especially those with mild symptoms.

To break the chain of transmission, action plans have been undertaken for every district in the country.

Citing the example of Pune, he informed that door-to-door surveys are being conducted in the western metropolis to identify people having symptoms, including hypertension and diabetes.
