COVID Norms Violation: When Will BJD Office Be Sealed? Asks Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, whose office at Palaspalli here was sealed for flouting COVID-19 norms, on Saturday questioned the double standards of the Odisha government in dealing with such violations.

At a press meet outside her sealed office, the MP showed 17 photographs and a video, claiming violations by BJD MLAs and ministers. The photographs included that of the gathering at the BJD office, where the body of Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy was kept for people to pay their respects, and at his funeral. “Minister Samir Ranjan Dash can be seen without a mask at the event,” she said.

The BJD meeting at Tirtol was attended by over 300 people and none was seen wearing a mask, she added.

She has demanded action such violations in the next 15 days when her office will remain sealed. “I will write to the CM to know about the action taken against these BJD MLAs and ministers,” she said.

Aparajita said that she works 13 to 14 hours a day and visit people. “We have to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols as advised by the PM. But there is no need for engaging in such vindictive politics. The rule of law should apply equally to all,” she said.

Defending the BMC’s move, BJD said the sealing of MP Aparajita Sarangi’s office was an administrative decision.

“Sealing of BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi’s office is an administrative decision and there is no say of BJD in the matter. A lot of buildings have been sealed in the past in view of public safety,” said BJD spokesperson Sulata Deo.
