Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel has been dismissed from service for not disclosing that he had married a Pakistani woman and helping her stay in India even after the expiry of her short-term visa.
The matter came to when India ordered all Pakistanis – except those with diplomatic and long-term visas – to leave the country after the Pahalgam terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead.
Minal Khan of Pakistan also received a notice to leave the country. However, she moved court with the prayer that she has already applied for a long-term visa and had even cleared the interview, the final stage of the process. Even as she was waiting to be deported from the Wagah-Attari Border, the court granted her interim relief.
The court held that she could stay in India till authorities took a decision on whether to grant her a long-term visa or not.
It was while all this was taking place that it came to be known that Minal is married to CRPF constable Munir Ahmed. It came to be known that Ahmed, posted in Jammu and Kashmir, came in touch with Minal, a resident of the Punjab province of Pakistan over social media.
The two got married in May 2024 through an online nikaah. After a long wait for a short-term visa, Minal finally arrived in India in March 2025. She continued to stay on even after the visa expired on March 22. Her lawyer claimed that she was waiting as she has applied for a long-term visa.
The CRPF, meanwhile, started its own probe after coming to know that Minal is married to one of their personnel. Ahmed had never disclosed that he is married to a Pakistani. He had also not told his seniors that his wife was overstaying in India.
“This is a major security issue. More so as he is posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Ahmed had been dismissed from service and a further inquiry is on to ascertain how much information about his job he shared with his wife and the contacts she had in Pakistan,” a senior official said, admitting that it is a major security breach.
