New Delhi: The Common University Entrance Test or CUET for undergraduate programmes will now begin from May 13, it has been announced. The Exam was earlier scheduled to be held from May 8.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had postponed CUET-UG 2025 and the new schedule was to be declared on Tuesday after a meeting. The NTA had earlier informed the University Grants Commission (UGC) of its inability to hold the examination as per the earlier timetable.
A meeting took place between the two bodies during the day to determine a revised schedule. The Test will now start from May 13, it was announced after the meeting. The delay is said to have occurred due to the agency’s recent focus on conducting the NEET-UG exam, which took place last Sunday. CUET is conducted by the NTA on behalf of the UGC.
Owing to the delay, over 13.5 lakh candidates and their guardians are awaiting updates, including the release of city intimation slips which provide information on exam centres and dates. This year, the CUET format will be totally computer-based. There shall be 37 subjects offered, each paper lasting 60 minutes with 50 multiple-choice questions.
The number of shifts per day may vary, based on centre availability, but two to three shifts are expected. Unlike in previous years, a formal date sheet has not been released. Instead, the NTA is expected to share exam dates directly through city slips, which will also inform candidates of their assigned locations.
The absence of clarity has caused concern among many students and guardians, particularly those who will have to travel long distances to take the Exam. The CUET-UG will be conducted in 13 Indian languages. These include English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu. The NTA website will provide further details.
