Cuttack: Cuttack Cyber Police have arrested the fraudster, who had allegedly duped a visiting professor of Cuttack’s Ravenshaw University of Rs 3.99 lakh by posing as a BSNL officer.

Besides Rs 1 lakh in cash, 116 different SIM cards, 11 mobiles and 36 ATM cards were seized from his possession.

According to sources, the 66-year-old professor received a call from an unidentified person on February 28. Identifying himself as a BSNL officer, he asked the professor to immediately recharge to keep his SIM active by downloading an app, Team Viewer. He asked him to send only Rs 10 to avoid deactivation of the SIM.

Once the professor downloaded the app and clicked on the lick, the fraudster got access to his bank account and withdrew Rs 3.99 lakh in four phases.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Commissionerate Police had recently issued a public advisory, requesting citizens not to download any suspicious apps.
