Cyclone Titli: Educational Institutions Closed In Five Odisha Districts
Bhubaneswar: In view of cyclone Titli, which has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and moving towards the Odisha coast, the state government on Wednesday announced that all educational institutions and anganwadi centres in five coastal districts will remain closed till further notice.
Talking to mediapersons here, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said following the heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the coastal districts under the influence of the cyclonic storm, the state government has directed closure of all schools, colleges and other educational institutions and anganwadi centres in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts on Wednesday.
He also informed that the government will take a decision for the other districts, which will be affected by the cyclone, at a high-level meeting to be presided over by the Chief Minister later in the day. “The meeting will take a decision in this regard after assessing the intensity of the cyclonic storm,” he pointed out.
Asked about the students’ union election in the colleges and universities scheduled on Thursday, the SRC said the elections in these five districts would be postponed if the inclement weather continues.
If the government announces the closure of educational institutions in more districts, the elections would also be postponed, he added.
