Bhubaneswar: With cyclone ‘Titli’ intensifying into a very severe cyclonic storm, the Odisha government on Wednesday declared holiday for all educational institutions in the state for the next two days.
Following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary A P Padhi said that the students’ union elections scheduled for Thursday, has also been postponed. Educational institutions and anganwadi centres across the state will be closed on October 11 and 12, he said, adding that teachers, however, have been asked to remain in attendance.
He also informed that the students’ union elections in four universities and all colleges across the state scheduled on Thursday have been put on hold till further orders.
Following the heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the coastal districts under the influence of the cyclonic storm, the government had earlier ordered for closure of all schools, colleges and other educational institutions and anganwadi centres in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts on Wednesday.
