Khurda: A man and his son allegedly died by suicide over debt-related issues at Kesapur village in Odisha’s Khurda district.
According to information, 70-year-old Nabaghana Pradhan of Kesapur village under Banapur police limits allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train on Saturday.
After learning about his father’s death, his 30-year-old son Tofan Pradhan allegedly consumed poison. Family members and villagers rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Locals said Tofan had been living away from the village and had returned home only two days ago. During his stay, he reportedly came to know that his father had borrowed a substantial amount of money. An argument is said to have erupted between the two over the issue.
Distressed by the situation, the elderly man allegedly took the extreme step, sources said.
Following the incident, Banapur police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragedy. The last rites of both were conducted amid an atmosphere of grief.
