Doctor Hospitalized After Receiving COVID-19 Vaccine; Know Details

Mexico City: A female doctor in Mexico was hospitalized after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Government authorities said that the 32-year-old, whose name was not released, had to be admitted to the intensive care unit of a public hospital in the state of Nuevo Leon after she experienced seizures, developed breathing difficulty and skin rash, Reuters reported.

The Health Ministry informed that the initial diagnosis is encephalomyelitis, which is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. The ministry also said that the doctor has a history of allergic reactions.

There was no evidence from clinical trials of anyone developing an inflammation of the brain post vaccination.

Pfizer and BioNTech were not available for comment.

Mexico, which has reported over 126,500 deaths due to COVID-19, started vaccination programme with healthcare workers on December 24.
