ECoR Set For New Record, Registers Growth In Freight Handling & Passenger Transport

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) is set for a record performance in 2022 financial year as it has registered in impressive growth in handling freight and transport of passengers by December over the corresponding period in previous year.

The ECoR has loaded 175.32 MT of freight upto December 2022 of the current financial year as against 169.39 MT during the corresponding period of last fiscal with a growth of about 3.5%. In terms of earnings from freight, it has earned Rs 14247.88 crore during the period as against Rs 13134.98 crore by registering a growth of 8.47%.

On the passenger front, the ECoR carried 53.11 million passengers upto December 2022 against 21.37 million in the corresponding period of last fiscal by registering a growth of 148.5%. It earned Rs 1403.58 crores against Rs 770.45 crore by registering an increase of 82.17%.

All three divisions of the ECoR, i.e. Khurda Road, Waltair and Sambalpur contributed to the growth.

The ECoR aims to complete the infrastructural works in this fiscal. Vital traffic related works like doubling of Sambalpur-Titilagarh section, Angul-Talcher Road section, Angul-Balram link inner coal corridor connectivity project, 3rd & 4th line between Salagaon-Rajathgarh, doubling of Salagaon-Kapilas Road, doubling of Jakhapura-Nayagarh, third line between Kapilas Road & Nergundi, 3rd line between Budhapank-NTPC block cabin & 4th line between Budhapank-Talcher Road, 3rd line between Titilagarh-Kesinga and doubling between Sikir-Titilagarh along with yard remodelling, double line of 21 KMs between Kaklur-Kawargaon-Dabpal, 3rd line between Rupra Road-Norla Road-Lanjigarh Road along with electrification, Doubling between Dummuriput-Damanjodi Section in Koraput-Rayagada branch line have been completed and commissioned during this year.

In Khurda Road-Balangir railway line project, construction works are being done from both sides to complete this at the earliest.
