Jeypore: An elephant herd on Sunday wreaked havoc at Narayanpatna in Koraput district.
The herd, which had strayed into the human settlements from a nearby forest this morning, attacked two persons. The duo was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The herd, comprising around seven elephants reportedly entered agricultural fields at Alamanda under Bandhugaon block of the district and destroyed rice and maize crop.
After getting information regarding the incident, forest personnel reached the spot and shooed away the elephants.
The officials suspect that the wild animals might have come here from the nearby forest areas in search of food.
Irate locals said elephants have been creating panic among the residents since long. But the forest officials are yet to find a concrete solution to the menace, they added.
